Upgrade To Safari 11

Last updated: October 22, 2017

Safari 11 downloaded fine but something went wrong during reboot and I ended up reinstalling El Captain 10.11.6. Now I'm back to Safari 9 but App Store thinks that I've already installed Safari 11 and so no longer offers Safari 11 as an update. I assume that this will fix itself if and when a new release of Safari 11. Apple upgraded the macOS Safari browser to version 11 this week, adding a feature that has drawn the ire of the online advertising industry. Safari 11 can be downloaded to Macs running 2016's. MacOS Big Sur (version 11) is the 17th and current major release of macOS, Apple Inc.' S operating system for Macintosh computers, and is the successor to macOS Catalina (version 10.15). It was announced at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 22, 2020, and was released to the public on November 12, 2020. MacOS Big Sur brings a major user interface redesign.

On Windows

To update Safari browser on Windows, click the computer's Start button, and select (All) Programs. Choose Apple Software Update from the list of programs that displays. On Windows 8, click the Search icon on the Start screen, input Apple Software Update into the search field, then click Apple Software Update in the search results.

The Apple Software Update program will check to see if any of the Apple programs installed on your computer requires an update, including Safari. If a Safari update is available, a notification will display that New software is available from Apple.

Check the Safari check box in the list of available updates, then click the Install button. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the update. An update may require you to be logged in as an administrator. If you encounter user account control (UAC), input your admin user name and password to proceed with the installation.

Once the installation has completed, you may be prompted to restart Safari for the update to take effect. Close all of your open Safari tabs and windows, then relaunch Safari.

On Mac

To update Safari browser, click the Apple menu, and choose App Store.

If an update is available, the number of updates available for your Mac will display in the drop-down menu. The App Store window will launch, and the Updates panel will display. If your Mac has not checked for updates, and does not display any available updates, you may manually check for updates by clicking Updates.

If an update is available for Safari, click the Update button next to the Safari update to install it. If prompted, input your Apple ID and password to log into the App Store.

Once the installation has completed, you may be prompted to restart Safari for the update to take effect. Close all of your open Safari tabs and windows, then relaunch Safari.
